What is Right Now?

Rights Now Collective for Democracy is a non-profit, Non-partisan organization established in Sri Lanka founded in November 2007. RN is a membership based organization governed by a Board of Directors elected by membership at the Annual General Meeting (AGM). “Rights Now” has been registered as a Non-profit sharing limited liability company in Sri Lanka at the Registrar of Companies under the Companies Act No. 17 of 1982 as amended in 2007.

“Rights Now” has been functioning as a volunteer organization and has actively taken part in training, capacity building, advocacy and lobbying activities conducted jointly with traditional and nontraditional Human Rights defenders in Sri Lanka. Rights Now played a leading role in building networks with other civil society organizations, political parties, trade unions, student unions and public.

What is Rights Now Human Rights Internship Programme?

Rights Now Internship Programme was started on 2008. RNIP aims to provide on-the-job training opportunities to students or graduates from a range of educational and professional backgrounds. Interns will have the opportunity to deepen their theoretical knowledge on human rights and acquire practical skills required for engaging with different advocacy, campaigns, documentation of complaints and research on the situation of human rights in Sri Lanka. Furthermore, they will have the opportunity to enhance their understanding of human rights challenges in Sri Lanka. Interns will also acquire practical experience of work in NGOs and civil society.

What will interns do?

They are giving an experience in Human rights based activities. RN internships often offer direct exposure to the workings of a local human rights organization, close supervision by the RN staff, interaction with other local organizations and domestic government officials and opportunities to attend trainings, campaigns and special events relating to human rights.

Currently available position is “Legal intern.

The Interns who are successfully completes the internship will be awarding a certificate.

Who can apply?

  • A candidate must be an under graduate of Law / internal student of higher education institute or recently passed out graduate or recently completed the course at higher education institute.


  • Commitment and interest to protect and promote Human Rights and Democracy.
  • Computer Literacy.

Duration of the Internship?

Internships will be of six months duration and Interns are expecting to work on full time basis. They have to work 8.30 am to 5.00 pm at our office locate at Colombo.

Selection Procedures?

Only selected applicants will be contacted for in-person interviews. We thank all applicants for their interest but only short-listed candidates will be contacted.


We will be paying a monthly allowance of Rs. 15,000 under the conditions to cover the food and travel cost.
